'civic media' (MIT press) is out!

The book 'Civic Media: Technology, Design, Practice', edited by Eric Gordon and Paul Mihailidis for the MIT Press is finally out! I have contributed a chapter in the theory session, entitled 'Liberated Technology: Inside Emancipatory Communication Activism'. The book collectively addresses the following questions: How are digital technologies being used to foster connections between citizens and formal and informal public institutions? What does citizenship look like in a networked age? Can technologies alter public processes, change the way people interact with government, and deepen engagement with public life? Can they threaten democracy by providing more efficient mechanisms of monitoring and control of citizens? Find out more visiting the project website. You can read my own chapter following this link.
