at Goldsmiths in London to discuss social movements & media technology

On May 14-15, I joined Veronica Barassi (Goldsmiths) and Alice Mattoni (COSMOS, European University Institute) for the first of the SoMe Seminar series, on 'Mobilisations, Changing Protest Cultures and Web 2.0 Technologies'. The workshop explored contemporary ‘protest cultures’ and the changing relationship between political participation and media technologies in the age of social media. It focuses on the dimensions of organisation, political imagination, and lived experience. I contributed to reflect on political imaginaries, with a presentation titled 'We Come in Peace: Inside Hacktivists’ Imaginaries and Repertoires'. This was just the first of the seminars, so keep an eye on the website of the series--seminars are opened to all! The series is jointly organized by the Centre for Global Media and Democracy at Goldsmiths University of London and Centre on Social Movements Studies at the European University Institute in Florence.
