in the meantime...

For a variety of reasons, since the last spring I have kept some distance from this space. In this time, however, I haven't kept quiet.
I have delivered talks at ICTSE in Lisbon, at the School of Advanced International Studies of Johns Hopkins University in Bologna, at the University of Oslo, and at the Development Planning Unit of University College London.
I keynoted at the annual meeting of the Italian STS association, in Padova in June, and at the workshop at Kings' College, London, in July.
I have presented papers at the Data Justice conference (Cardiff, May), the International Symposium of Media Innovation (Oslo, in August), and the Association of Internet Researchers (AoIR) conference (Montreal, October). I contributed to honoured an inspiring scholar, Marc Raboy, at the festschrift organized in occasion of his retirement, at McGill University in October.
I co-organized panels at the Latin American Studies Association (Barcelona, May, with Emiliano Treré and Anita Say Chan) and at the European Association of Science and Technology Studies (EASST) conference (Lancaster, July, with Guillen Torres and Katja Meyer).
I contributed to RightsCon in Toronto (April), the Future Forum of the IGMetall union (Berlin, June), the NETCOMMON project meeting (Athens, in July), the Algorithm Sovereignity Summit at the Tech Festival in Copenhagen (September), and the annual Open Technology Summit in Taipei (October).
I gave a TEDx talk in Amsterdam in June, and a few interviews.
DATACTIVE hosted its advisory board workshop in early July, coupled with a fantastic public event entitled "Democracy Under Siege: Digital Espionage and Civil Society Resistance" and featuring Ron Deibert (Citizen Lab), Seda Guerses (KU Leuven) and Nishant Shah (ArtEZ University of the Arts/Leuphana University).
And, last but not least, we even got a grant to support the ALEX project, where ALEX stands. Thanks European Research Council for awarding us a competitive Proof of Concept grant. More info coming soon at https://algorithms.exposed. Stay tuned!!
